Alpha characters are the oldest characters in a book, originally they were used because ink would run out and it was the last letters you had available. Today you will find them in personal or company logos to represent “the beginning”.
Alpha is also the first letter of the Greek alphabet.
Alpha’s corresponding numeric value is 1 which is associated with beginnings and individuality.
In Jungian psychology an alpha personality tends to be quite separate from others, focused on their self-interests, as well as aggressive and antagonistic in relationships. Both alpha males and females tend to not have great interpersonal skills when negotiating social situations due to lack of vulnerability towards others or themselves. As a result this can cause either good competition (alpha male) or possible toxicity (alpha female) in social groups.
Alpha characters are also often used to show strength and dominance. They can be found in dinosaur names , fantasy, sports team logos etc.
Psyche is the Greek goddess of the soul, though her name now has come to represent “the inner self”. The symbol for psyche comes from the ancient greek letter, the lowercase alpha. Psyche is also depicted with butterfly wings , another clue to her connection with psyche.
