A tri-state area (also called a tristate area) is an area where it’s possible to travel by land from one state to any other adjacent state without using a toll road, bridge, or tunnel.
Most of North America is made up of tri-state areas that are accessible without the need for transportation infrastructure. Places like Arizona and Nevada can also easily move freely between states because they’re not surrounded by water, but require going through California or one of the Dakotas.
