Shounen anime is anime that targets young male audiences with a high-adventure idea or theme.
Shônen manga typically means “young boy” and is used as the demographic marketing category for manga aimed at adolescent males, most often written by men.
The shōnen genre of manga differs from most other forms in that action sequences are few and far between, combat cannot happen until later volumes, and the balance of drama to comedy is significantly skewed towards comedy (or drama or mystery) at the expense of battles.
Giant robot designs were originally a notable feature of this genre but their prominence had gradually declined since the introduction of relatively newer mecha genres such as harem featuring the villainess archetypes.
