Shounen is a Japanese term that combines the kanji for “young child” and “boy”. Literally translated, it means boy-child. Shounen anime is a kind of animation in Japan designed specifically to appeal to young male audiences ages 10 – 18. The kinds of stories usually feature adventures and heroism (as things are often set up in the character’s own or society’s view) as well as starring boys or men . They can explore various topics which prominently include street fighting against evil gangs over territory or money, science fiction with robots, space exploration. Although kids shows such as Pokemon originally incorporated shonen elements into its storyline plot line, these days most series aimed at children have many shonen elements too
