Refurbished has been rebuilt. All “refurbished” products need to be fully inspected and tested before they can go back on the market for sale, or before they can come back into a store’s inventory.
Renewed does not need this type of inspection and testing because it is still in excellent shape. Renewed is used to shop both new and old models of high-end products which are sent to the company at own risk for repair or replacement parts that customers have paid a fee for upfront.
Since refurbished items seep out from stores inventory, there may often be some different manufacturer marks found in these pieces as opposed to other refurbished goods sold by retailers where no alternatives exist. This doesn’t change the fact that the existence of refurbished goods does not necessarily mark them as any lesser used or marked products.
