The Memory Clock is the amount of cycles per second that the memory modules will process data; while the Core Clock is how many instructions can execute per second by using different commands to draw objects on your screen or in video game. Generally speaking, overclocking either clock actually makes performance worse because you pay for it in more noise and heat (though certain cryptocurrencies may benefit from more than one GPU to work). But lower temperatures do mean you’ll need less expensive fans to keep everything cool. For this reason alone, lowering the core clock speed could result in quieter PC with fewer power bills for those gamers on a budget.
The core clock is the speed that data moves from the GPU memory to the processor cores. The memory clock dictates how fast data can move across the chip as a whole, including between both memory and cores. To copy a chunk of game code from one end to another demands more time when there are more connections to cross. This is because when a device fails or crashes, its clocks’ speeds are reset to specific values as a final safety measure before shutting down.
It’s important for most gamers that the clock speeds are balanced; if one setting is too high, other games might not work well with it. Armed with this knowledge you should be able to set your graphics cards more effectively by increasing either of those settings.
Ideally, the CPUs and the GPUs have a matched set of memory clock speed and core clock speed. An old clocked CPU would most likely be paired with an even older GPU to make for guaranteed stability.
A high end GPU has a much higher memory clock than your average CPU because it handles data that’s large and massively processed.(around 4000-5000 MHz)

Core clock is often referred to as the GPU’s “engine speed”, and it makes a big difference in how many frames a GPU can render per second. However, there are also other major factors at play when determining how much power a graphics card requires: memory bandwidth (RAM), VRAM, and shader frequency. GPUs with greater core speeds will require less RAM; GPUs with more VRAM will require less use of shared resources like system RAM; higher shaders means faster image calculations for high-resolution displays or high precision; higher pixel frequencies provide smoother animations without visible “steps” in motion.

Memory bandwidth on GPUs is limited primarily by how fast memory can be brought out from main memory, which gives it a hard limit to operate at for most PCs we use right now – ~6 Gbps. The speed of the GPU should have some impact in driving throughput, but the shared nature of typical DDR3 mainboard/GPU connections will generally buffer any difference we care about there. As such, much larger differences arise when comparing clock speeds multiple times as fast as this ceiling – 2400 MHz vs 1600MHz. In other words, just remember that core clock is twice as high so twice as much data can pass through pipes running at that speed than before.

Otherwise you’re just wasting resources without making any progress on performance whatsoever!
