My list out the best anime series.
Cowboy Bebop, Dragonball Z, Death Note, One Piece, InuYasha
Westerners watch the “Dragon Ball Z” series and love it. But they’re not so crazy about Japanese anime.
This is because what makes American TV shows great is realism, while a lot of Japanese anime series distract from this idea with really weird stuff that just doesn’t work in America.
Anime like “Lily and her limps”, for example, addresses topics such as gang violence (isn’t comparable to ‘Mad Men’ or ‘Breaking Bad’) and terrorism (pretty terrifying).
Those subjects don’t strike me as suitable for American audiences who are used to watching other types of television- especially those younger generations who never even dreamed reports on 9/11 would happen in their life time.
Here’s my list: Cowboy Bebop, Akira, Soul Eater, One Punch Man, Michiko e Hatchin, Redline.
Death Note – “A note book falls from the sky into the hands of a Japanese high-schooler named Light Yagami” and “on its pages are written characters that can kill anyone whose name is written within.”
Attack on Titan – “100 years ago, titans suddenly appeared on Earth out of nowhere and with them came unimaginable consequences, they swallowed up entire towns whole” Attack on Titan started as an award winning manga in 2009 and was adapted into an anime series in 2013.
This can be a daunting question, and my answer is always going to be subjective.
However, these are the ones I find most appealing and that I think best capture how well an animated series can handle a story with universal appeal.
Death note, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Code Geass Final Season, Dragonball Kai Kami to Kami, Cowboy Bebop.
The best anime series are usually the ones that have been popularized and re-released over and over again.
Listed below are some of the most popular ones: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Code Geass Final Season, Dragonball Kai Kami to Kami, Cowboy Bebop.
An interesting warning with this type of Anime series is that they do not get into the “graphic” detail on how injuries occur or are incurred like some other types of shows might.
If you enjoy watching death and violence in its more graphic form you may want to choose another show for entertainment.
One of our favorites is Black Butler, which follows the story of Ciel Phantomhive and his experiences as the head of the Phantomhive noble family after he comes age 10 following his father’s death in an explosion orchestrated by a rival aristocrat seeking revenge for a loss of face. Ciel disguises himself as a normal boy until he can take on two jobs to figure out who caused this attack. In these jobs, he accidentally acquires some unusual but loyal friends: Sebastian Michaelis, an incredibly skilled demon who looks like a cat and Elizabeth Middleford, an honest working woman.
Naruto, Death Note, Sailor Moon, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.
There are a lot of great anime series out there.
It depends on what you’re into and which characters appeal to you the most but these are the ones that get us motivated every single time: Naruto (action-packed), Death Note (action-filled suspense), Sailor Moon (funny dose of nostalgia for adults), Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood (heavy and compelling).
Happy watching!
