On a gaming graphics card, there are two different clocks: Memory Clock and Core Clock. The Memory Clock is the amount of cycles per second that the memory modules will process data; while the Core Clock is how many instructions can execute per second by using different commands to draw objects on your screen or in video game. Generally speaking, overclocking either clock actually makes performance worse because you pay for it in more noise and heat (though certain cryptocurrencies may benefit from more than one GPU to work). But lower temperatures do mean you’ll need less expensive fans to keep everything cool. For this reason alone, lowering the core clock speed could result in quieter PC with fewer power bills for those gamers on a budget.
