You need six stamps for a letter within the USA.

A modern postage stamp is worth one cent, and you need at least four of these to put on an envelope. There are six panels on each side of a square in which you can affix four stamps to send out letters – this is why there are six for domestic mail. You use two-cent stamps to send letters outside the country. Let’s say the postage will cost around $17 per 100 grams, or about $0.02 per gram (most letters are less than 10 grams). If you purchase 400 worth of stamps, then it’ll cost close to nothing (even with transportation costs) because you’re using 4 cents’ worth for each piece mailed domestically.

The USPS says, “You can use Forever stamps or first-class mail postage stamps to send letters in the U.S.; you’ll need one stamp for each piece of paper.”

Each stamp has a value of 1/2 ounce, which satisfies this question.

We recommend making sure to use at least 2 stamps for longer letters, and 1 for shorter letters.

USPS recommends that you use 2 or more stamps on longer letter mailings. Put one stamp over the top right corner of the envelope’s face side and one in the bottom left corner. If a square envelope is used, put one stamp on either side near the seal. For international mailing we recommend at least two stamps as postage rates are much higher than they once were in order to increase security.

It depends. There are three main options for sending letters within the US, and you can choose whichever method best suits your needs:

According to USPS, you’ll need 100 stamps to send a letter anywhere in the USA with first-class service. With this service, which is usually considered premium and is typically more expensive than other options, you should receive a letter in 2-3 days to certain areas of the country and up to 7 days nationwide.

Express mailing costs $5 more than Priority Mail for domestic mailings and delivers within 1 or 2 business days anywhere in the U.S., depending on specific location.

    The Postal Service recommends 6.

By staying organized and taking a little extra time before sending your letters, you can ensure they’re mailed quicker and more efficiently. To help save you from running out of stamps midway through your letter writing spree, try to reserve precisely six stamps ahead of time so when you need to mail one next, it’s ready for the taking!

Stamps used to be subject to surcharge.

If that is the case, then it’s 1 stamp per letter up to a limit of 55 grams. If not, then it’s 1 stamp per domestic first-class letter up to 20 ounces or 1 pound. For international letters, there are other values depending on where the destination country is and how many pages in the letter.

In my personal experience, I have found that for standard-sized letters within the USA, it typically only requires one stamp. However, it’s always a good idea to double-check with your local post office or use a postage calculator to ensure you have the correct amount.

    Depending on geographical location.

In the United States, you’ll need at least one first-class stamp for “Letters.” Non-first class mail is typically slower and less reliable. As of October 20, 2018, a single first-class price is $0.49. If you can’t find a stamp that sticks to paper well (due to water or other exterior elements), use two stamps affixed end to end with the opposite colors facing each other. This will cancel out the adhesive and give you a guaranteed stick for your postage. Preferably go with self licking stamps so that there’s no need for licking as a means of getting this done in person.

It depends on the weight of the letter, but usually you will need either 1 or 2 oz.

Unless it’s a postcard (which is always one stamp) then all letters to destinations inside the US will require at least one stamp. And two stamps if they are over 13 ounces in weight. If your package exceeds any specified size though, you can expect additional charges for excess freight and packaging materials beyond what the USPS provides- so be sure to get an accurate shipping estimate before mailing anything!
