The short answer is no, but it’s certainly not impossible. Todoroki is a fairly common family name in Japan. The tanto that Dabi wields could be his only way of answering the question since he doesn’t really have many ways to speak his thoughts out loud during an interview. Or, if you take any of the routes that make him a terrorist or a part of a government organization, having connections to the Todoroki family would be quite easy.
There’s no particular evidence in either Boku No Hero Academia or My Hero Academia: Vigilantes that suggests he has any type of connection to them whatsoever, but it still is very feasible. I hope this helped clear things up for those who were wondering!
Dabi is the Quirk name for a technique that uses fire to create out-of-control blazes.
Dabi’s namesake “Todoroki” has been seen with this parental surname in both episodes 58 and 24, when they were introducing Team Todoroki. Obviously, it doesn’t make sense that he would also have his own Quirk and be using it by himself if he wasn’t related to the family. The best way of confirming which side of the family he is related is called King Fire Dabi or Flame Hero -Dabi-, as there are many heroes identified as such on My Hero Academia Wiki.
I think so, but I am not sure.
So far in the show, All for One has been mentioned once or twice and it is rumored that he is involved with some of the villains from this show. While we haven’t come across Todoroki yet, it was mentioned by Shinsou that All For One’s power is dangerous enough to destroy the country. Perhaps with enough research on your own, this answer will change! It would be kind of cool if they were related considering how strong they both are. Seems like a fairytale story right? 😀
Yes.
Dabi is Todoroki’s older brother, and as such he has the same quirk as his family. However, unlike them, Dabi also possesses another quirk of unknown origin that allows him to control fire and flames at will.
No.
There is NO canon relationship between the Todoroki family in My Hero Academia and Dabi, however a fan theory for Dabi’s connection to the Todroki family is that he could be Tobio Ikuse ‘s father or brother. Can this fan theory be confirmed?
Regardless of if it can be confirmed, there will never be any mention of any such relationship in the story so enjoy theorizing!
No.
The Todoroki family is one of the families in the show, but it’s unrelated to Dabi. There are some close similarities, but neither show has confirmed this connection, so there’s no real answer. For now, we have no information about how these two are related or who they’re connected to on any level at all.
The fact that both share similarities is very likely just a coincidence since much of what makes a character identifiable is by their appearance and abilities which often don’t relate to other characters sharing similar traits within different stories despite being based off of each other for inspiration purposes only (eg DC comics and Marvel). It comes down more heavily to where the individual person takes what they know from the inspiration source and what they apply their own spin on to make it their own.
In some cases there isn’t even a need for an actual connection between those sharing the same traits as readers project those connections on their own imagined terms altogether simply because that’s all they have to go off of, but it doesn’t mean that this is always the case either. Other times their connection is simply that they’re related, but not in any significant way.
All that’s known for the time being is that Dabi and Endeavor do share some notable similarities; however, it doesn’t automatically mean anything since there isn’t enough information out there at the moment to draw such a conclusion with any certainty yet. Endeavor being a possible connection between the two is merely speculative in nature, but only time will tell whether or not there’s any truth to it. Other than that, they may share some traits, but nothing has been definitively stated at this point so they could still just be coincidentally similar in appearance and abilities without being related after all.
The Dabi that is known as the villain in the My Hero Academia series by Kohei Horikoshi and his team, who goes around releasing fires, starts fights with rioters and killing people just because they’re on his way-is not related to Todoroki family. Manga My Hero Academia is a work created for entertainment purposes (a manga) depicting fictional events/labels while all Japanese live in peace and harmony. Horikoshi himself has never written specifically about any kind of character being a real person’s child or relative to another character in MHA. The Dabi you mention is only illustrated as a villain role under stipulation of creating an exciting story for the audience’s enjoyment.
Dabi is a member of the League of Villains, but there’s no relation to Todoroki. The two villains share some similarities such as burning people alive with fire and ice manipulation, but they are ultimately different characters who serve different purposes in manga story telling.
Based on their similar villainous traits, it would be fair to say that Dabi could be seen as an homage or tribute to Todoroki. In this case, don’t rush to conclusions because “fire” like can be interpreted in many ways (literal or figurative). It makes perfect sense for there not being a relation between them if you consider the possibility that he was introduced solely for the purpose of filling in some blanks on the side of Stain, the main villain of the story.
Stain refers to Dabi as his disciple, but there are no indications of Todoroki having served under or worked alongside him in any way. Of course not! This particular detail about Dabi came from author Kōhei Horikoshi’s mind together with all kinds of other small tidbits that were added to My Hero Academia ‘s lore.
A character by the name of Todoroki – and his son, who may take that hero name as well – are known within the My Hero Academia storyline. While it is not confirmed if he is an incarnation of this Todoroki lineage or not, Kurono Kibiki’s Dabi form does have an affinity for ice-based powers.
Kurogo Kibiki was a powerful ice user in My Hero Academia, more than enough skills to call himself “Dabi” or “Dabidabi” with pride and dignity.
While not directly confirming these two heroes’ identities as one and the same, there is definitely some meandering thoughts on those lines within fandom groups. While his both his strength and affinity for ice is not as powerful as those within this hero family, there may be a connection after all.
