It’s best to avoid taking hierarchy into consideration when choosing a race. If we were to use your white people vs. black people example, I had four points that I wanted you to consider:
Frequently, there are other aspects of someone’s life that might have more importance than their race in how they are treated – for instance their gender (do men or women earn more?), their sexuality (are gay or bisexual people disproportionally criminalized?)
It sounds like you know about privilege pretty well already, so I hope that this was not just an attempt at discussion as a way to “win” the argument over skills-based races because talking about one person’s empowerment does not mean power is taken away from another.
The best race in Skyrim is the Nord. Their home-land and stronghold is located far to the north, on the border of Skyrim’s tundra.
The Nords have a natural resistance to diseases that lower Maximum Health (but it does not protect against disease). They also have an increase in Frost Resistance, something that will come in handy as you explore this truly frigid province! They also boast a high breath capacity, which again may be useful for venturing out into Skyrim’s snowy wilderness; they are naturally gifted with Warrior skills and start off with some very powerful weapons; they inflict more damage with melee attacks than any other race; and thanks to their ability called “Battle Cry,” Nords deal greater damage at close range.
Nords are the most naturally talented warriors in all of Tamriel; an incredible bonus for this already impressive race. It’s even rumored that they are immune to the effects of frost magic. If you’re looking for a race that can handle just about anything Skyrim might throw at it, Nord is the way to go.
Bretons are the most powerful when it comes to magic, but you know what’s better? Khajiit.
Khajiit have a combination of stealthiness with talon attacks that make them perfect for sneaking up on foes and cutting them down in a strike! It also helps they can go back to increasing their stealth level during combat by simply pressing the duck button (caps lock, for those uninitiated), making it easy to hit an enemy’s back or flank from behind without being noticed first. Dragons beware!
The best race in Skyrim is argonian.
The argonian race has the following strengths:
1) Argonians produce 10% more health points per level as Bretons, Altmer and Dunmer (due to a larger tree-like spine).
2) Argonian eyes can make facial expressions. This is one of the first things you should look for when making your character, especially if you’re a roleplayer. They also have scales instead of skin which I find very interesting visually and seem to be an all around gorgeous race.
3) They are often billed as “underdogs” but are not so much weaker than other races because their agility and speed boosts outshine most disadvantages; meaning there’s no need to sacrifice strength, magic or other stats for good speed.
4) They’re somewhat of a hybrid between elves and lizard people which is perfect for me because elves give magic resistance and night-eye spells while lizard people have natural weapons in form of claws, can breathe underwater and even the most basic of spells like water-breathing. Having them all in one race makes your character extremely versatile and able to hold his/her own even on the more difficult settings.
In my opinion, the best race in Skyrim is the Dark Elf. I found their combination of fire resistance, natural agility, and overall versatility to be extremely beneficial in both combat and stealth gameplay styles.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is a game that values freedom and choice, and that means it must be allowed for you to play any race in the world even if some people might not like it. But with so many races available, why not try making them all equally good? Be proud of what makes you unique! Make sure that every character has her own strengths and weaknesses! Play whatever race you want without thinking about what other people think. That’s why its called Skyrim, after all; because there’s room for all of us.
In my opinion, the best race in Skyrim are
the Dunmer (or Dark Elves). They have increased spellcasting speed and increased fire resistance. This is because Dunmer live in Morrowind, a low-temperature region gripped tight by eternal ash storms.
Skyrim’s races are well developed with fascinating backstories and connections to the various NPC factions of Skyrim. That said, it’s difficult to choose which race is the “best” because all the races come equipped with unique skills and gifts that potential players might find useful for their upcoming adventures on Tamriel. As always, you should weigh how your skills will complement different race abilities before making a decision!
In my opinion, the Breton race is the best in Skyrim due to their natural resistance to magic and ability to combine both magic and combat skills effectively.

Overview paragraph about what the answer entails and what is different about it- Characters receive unwanted attention from Nords in Skyrim. The Thalmor want to control skyrim with their Aldmeri Dominion and are only getting more powerful. They want to eradicate all worshipers of Talos, as they see them as a threat because he’s an aspect of Lorkhan (the divine being that supposedly made Tamriel) so they are seen as blasphemous to him. Elves were kicked off the continent after first real war started, and now their with fort alliances bring back conflict almost on daily basis, but this time augmented by enslaving dragons.
Khajiit is the best race in Skyrim.
I have to disagree with this one, as an Imperial citizen myself. The Khajiit are great, but there can only be one “best.” And that’s simply the race you choose for yourself when you play Skyrim! That answer will depend on your play style and what type of powers or abilities you want to develop within each class. So my answer is that it depends on what you prefer!
High elves.
They have a low base armor rating but are proficient with magic, making them the defense mage of choice. They also have an absurdly high Magicka pool and regenerates magic quickly to fuel their fireballs and dagger shots from long range while staying safe from melee opponents in the back line.
The Nord comes close as the best race, especially because racial bonuses make it easier to cope when under heavy attack, including magicka regeneration rates increasing when dealing with block damage, it can max out on health points (making its regenerating properties invaluable) and gets increases resistances against cold weathers; but Nord is not as potent of a choice at fighting Magic or has many benefits in other areas like speechcraft and pickpocketing.
The Orc has a perk system that boosts the Warrior’s prowess in melee combat which gives an edge over other races especially when stamina is low.
