Refurbished has been rebuilt. All “refurbished” products need to be fully inspected and tested before they can go back on the market for sale, or before they can come back into a store’s inventory.
Renewed does not need this type of inspection and testing because it is still in excellent shape. Renewed is used to shop both new and old models of high-end products which are sent to the company at own risk for repair or replacement parts that customers have paid a fee for upfront.
Since refurbished items seep out from stores inventory, there may often be some different manufacturer marks found in these pieces as opposed to other refurbished goods sold by retailers where no alternatives exist. This doesn’t change the fact that the existence of refurbished goods does not necessarily mark them as any lesser used or marked products.
A refurbished item is a no-frills product, which might be in better condition than a used or unpackaged product, but will have surface wear and tear. Refurbished items are delivered in the same shrink-wrapped condition and packaging as they were originally sold.
The answer also states that it should state ‘refurbished products’ not just single products, to avoid confusion.
Products may be categorized as “refurbished” when they are returned by customers because of an issue such as defects or incorrect ordering etc., issues mentioned by sellers setting their sellers return expectations accordingly e.g., “0% Refurbishes” (meaning that there is a 0% chance of being returned for refurbishment), “1% Refurbish”, “5% Refurbish” etc. or as long as there is some general idea about the number of items which are expected to be returned by the customer.
So not just single products can be classified as refurbished, but maybe bundles too (a bundle is a package of multiple items sold together).
So if there is more than 1 item in the bundle, and at least one of them has been returned by a customer before, it can be stated as a ‘refurbished’ product. Of course only if the seller sets their return expectations accordingly.
If an individual product is sent back to the company, then it can’t be called refurbished anymore. It would have to go through the usual returns process (returns are on neweggs’ expense), and it will be inspected by Newegg’s RMA department before they send it back on its way.
The price for this item is what you might call ‘refurbished’, which is usually less than the price on an unopened product.
Renewed – When an item is renewed, it has gone through a rehabilitation process and has been restored to like-new condition. For instance, if you have a Macbook that was previously water damaged and can no longer function properly, the company would gladly offer to renew it for you. This does not mean they will replace your entire computer; rather, they may only need to fix the part that was messed up.
Refurbished- Items are refurbished when there is structural damage but not enough to affect performance or any electrical issues with the device (i.e., we’re still talking about reasonable wear and tear). It’s often made available at a discounted price for consumers who want new products without paying full price.
Renewed- like new, restored
Refurbished – items are fixed but not always brand new
Refurbished TVs are the ones that were bought and returned. These TVs typically do not come with a warranty but many of them use the manufacturer’s original parts that may be left over in inventory or are taken from other older TV models. The customer is typically responsible for any warranty issues which arise as there is no third party to step in and help.
Renewed means originally manufactured by a company, refurbished means repaired at an authorized manufacturer.
A refurbished device will have gone through a rigorous inspection and testing process before being resold to consumers. These steps may include software updates and physical checks for damage beyond light wear on the screen or plastic case.
The “Renewed” services I’m offering use factory OEM parts that are not used anywhere else in the world. Just as these energy-efficient LED bulbs illuminate your home with reliable illumination without the headache of flickering frequently seen in old traditional light bulbs, our “Renewed” devices also provide reliability that is long-lasting.
It’s like when you get your hair done at the salon – instead of using the same old hair dye color on over and over again (and yes I know what its like to use hair dye ALL THE TIME if your a mother) they mix a fresh batch of hair dye each time so it feels new and gives you the salon pick me up!
Refurbished items are typically those that have been used before (for a long time, based on the good condition), and then fixed up to work like new. Renewed items are typically new but not in their original packaging.
Refurbished is usually at a lower price because you’re still buying something that has had some use. However, with refurbishing companies determine which pieces should be replaced and such, so it could potentially cost more for a refurbished item than for cutting corners with your own DIY project! When you go with the renewed option, you should know what you’re getting into ahead of time – it might not necessarily feel like it was brought right from the store.
The difference between refurbished, and renewed is in the repairs. Refurbished describes a company that makes “refreshing” improvements. Renewed means to rejuvenate or bring back to a original state of usefulness. Would you like us to trade in your old car for a new one?
No thank you, it sounds like I have too many things going on right now with work and family. But will you take my car apart and put it back together again so we can sell it on Craigslist?
Yes!
Renewed is the same as new, but it has a shorter warranty period. Whereas with a refurbished product, you are exchanging an old model for a similar one that has been inspected and fixed by a technician.
With either option, instead of paying for full retail cost (100% original), you are going to pay some of that money back in savings. You can choose which option seems more fitting based on your needs and preferences!
Refurbished is when an item has been repaired or cleaned because it was faulty, whereas refurbishment is the systematic rebuilding of structures, such as buildings and bridges.
A complete overhaul of a building would be considered refurbishment. When you talk about repairing something like a toaster oven or phone, refurbishing means restoring it to its previous condition, like when you replace the battery in your laptop before giving it away. Renewed would mean bringing something back to life in that instance. So if we’re talking about restingock at Walmart with fresh items – everything becomes “renewed” even though they may not always be new items. It’s considered semantics for sure! Inquiring minds want to know so don’t assume 😉
The easiest way to summarize the difference is if you happen to be interested in a particular product, always choose “refurbished” as refurbishment gives a longer warranty and it’s likely that it was used by someone else for a while.
Refurbished electronic devices are usually from an original manufacturer or authorized retailer who took their time at fixing or replacing any issues with the device. Whereas renewed products are either rebuilt by vendors using new components (sometimes sourced from other vendors) or reconstituted by manufacturers with pre-owned parts.
