The main difference between UberX and normal Uber is the costs for riders. Riders using UberX usually pay less than they would with a regular ride, but drivers may still earn less per hour or get fewer trips.

UberX has been a controversial topic recently because many drivers say it’s no longer worth their time to work for these lower rates, whereas passengers are enjoying cheaper rides.

Since launching in 2010, Uber has rapidly grown into one of the most prominent symbols of economic hope and entrepreneurial spirit. Over the course of four years from 2012-2016, at least 500 private technology companies (so called “unicorns”) have gone under… In some countries like India it’s often hard to find an unlicensed taxi driver who will not overprice you…

These days, Uber is not just taking on taxis, but trying to beat out public transportation as well. In the last few years, the company has made efforts to lower prices in some markets so that it can compete directly with public transportation.

    Where does UberX fit in?

UberX is a cheaper alternative to the “Premium” UberBlack service. In most cases, you can take an UberX in a normal car, not a luxury sedan or SUV.

Drivers using UberX usually work part-time and there is more of a chance that they will be sharing their ride with other passengers going in the same direction. This might mean you get picked up on the way to your destination.

When you arrive at the pickup location, it will say ‘UberX’ on your app. There can be driver requests for normal Uber and those are for ‘normal’ cars so they take a little longer to serve.

    – Note that if the request is an uberVan, then we refer to it as “uberLUX.” Higher end users who spend more money during their ride time might prefer this option because of the luxury car smell and experience. Plus there is also a more friendly price point with our drivers being male or female and not just male. And lastly, when riders select “uberLUX,” they sometimes get to meet famous drivers like basketball players or musicians etc.

The normal Uber service is the signature Black Car experience. The other services are budget options, but they may not be available in certain cities.

This type of service is less expensive and provides a more budget-friendly option for those on a limited income or looking to save when in need for a ride. It’s also perfect for when you simply want the cheapest way to get from point A to point B with no frills.

There is no difference between these services. UberX is what most people refer to as the “low-cost” service, but this is simply a name meant to differentiate it from the standard Uber that does not have a low-cost option available on their app. The rates for both are still calculated in largely the same way with estimates given based on (surrounding) traffic and historical data.

The major difference comes into play when you compare convenience of customer use and ease of booking requests. For example, if rides aren’t readily available at your requested location or time, Uber will put you down as a “maybe,” while Lyft will offer an alternative pickup point right away where drivers are currently operating nearby without a request for a specific address. Uber may also require that you split the fare while Lyft will automatically send you a cost breakdown of your trip.

UberX is the option for users who would normally take Uber to select a vehicle that are less expensive than regular black cars or SUVs. Users can choose UberX if they feel their journeys are shorter and not out of the driver’s way.

Normal Uber should be chosen by those with more cash to burn, and typically greater comfort requirements for drivers (more style). Normal Uber includes other options such as larger SUVs, luxury cars, mini-vans, etc. It is mostly based on whether you want to stretch your legs or sit very comfortably! The only downside to this service is the pricing which is more expensive than normal vehicles but cheaper than a black car.

I’ve found that UberX typically offers larger vehicles like SUVs, minivans, and sedans, while normal Uber mostly consists of smaller cars like sedans and hatchbacks. The price difference between the two options can vary based on the city and time of day.

In my personal experience, the main difference between UberX and normal Uber is the type of vehicle used. With UberX, I typically get a standard sedan or smaller car, while with normal Uber I have the option for larger vehicles such as SUVs or minivans.

The difference between both is that UberX charges 30% less per mile than the average sedan but will increase with demand. Normal Uber, on the other hand, tacks on a surcharge whenever there is increased demand – aka surge pricing.

The only difference in the two services is the cost. Generally, UberX cars are cheaper than a normal Uber car. But there will be times when there are not enough drivers on the system and availability becomes more limited, which means that sometimes an UberX costs more because it’s more difficult to find one with available inventory.

Uberx is the cheapest option for a ride, but Uber El-Amin explains that this doesn’t necessarily mean it will be the cheapest in all situations. “The upfront price may eventually turn out to be relatively high.”

Normal Uber services are determined by your destination and traffic conditions and operate similarly to traditional taxis. These rates are usually considerably higher than those offered by UberX, which tends to cost more during peak hours because of demand. Additionally, the company offers carpooling (Uber Pool) as an alternative service during slower hours at reduced rates or for cars with multiple seats/doors.

No one answer can be given for the difference, but usually the difference is in some part determined by a city’s regulations. For example, New York City does not allow UberX drivers to pick up passengers at all so there is no difference between the two services. In Massachusetts, a driver who has an “I/K” restriction on their license may only provide for-hire transportation with a “black car”, “limo”, or “livery” company through their livery business and cannot provide transportation services either as an independent contractor or as an employee of another entity through their black car or limo business.” This means that if your driver is I/K restricted then you will need to request UberX instead of normal Uber.

What does it mean when an Uber driver tells me to request normal Uber instead of UberX?

It means that the driver cannot provide the service you are requesting unless they have a commercial license or livery license. If their license is I/K restricted (see above) then they must tell you to request an UberX car.

UberX is cheaper and has fewer cars.

The uberX cars are typically cheaper because they are smaller and have a shorter range, which means that more drivers can serve the same radius of people (think an entrepreneur who might only own or be able to drive one car). They also offer cheaper rates per minute or even by mile. It’s usually slower than regular Uber, so if you’re in a hurry, stick with your run-of-the-mill ride. Waiting an extra 15 minutes to save 3 bucks may not be worth the time if for some reason its a big deal that you get there when you want.
