Where is the best place to live in Florida for families?
The best place to live in Florida for families is around the Gulf Coast, or Miami.
The coast of Florida offers both a nice ocean breeze and gorgeous beaches perfect for kids to explore. It’s also more affordable than areas like Orlando or Tampa in Central and North Florida. Miami has plenty of space if you’re looking for a lot of land, which can be pricey anywhere else in the state!
And because Miami is not as hot during the summer months, it has long been a hotspot for retirees. There are even communities where residents only speak Spanish! Speaking service English? Spanish? Bring your trilingual child along! They’ll learn another language while they use theirs with native speakers around them from day one – an absolute plus.
Metropolitan Orlando is the most populous metropolitan area and suffers from Florida’s overall crime rates. That being said, there are gated communities that are reasonable or affordable alternatives for families.
Ft Myers has a much lower cost of living than metropolitan Tampa Bay and Miami, but Ft Myers still experiences some crime rates and can be less desirable to work in.
Tampa Bay has more jobs at better salaries (technology, communications), but it also sees higher property values contribute to high cost of living.
Miami is the priciest place in Florida with significant high levels of criminal activity due to poverty within the neighborhoods. Timing a move there could be fine for retirees looking for warm weather and moderately priced homes.
The best place to live in Florida for families is Tampa.
For five years running, US News has ranked Tampa as one of the top cities for family living. Their rankings take into account categories such as affordability, education and health, child care, commute times and urban vs. suburban populations. A major reason why Tampa has been ranked so highly is because of its low property tax rates which allow many families to buy their first homes.
Tampa Bay, Jacksonville, Miami, or Orlando. Tampa Bay is the northernmost part of Florida and services a few towns like Clearwater Beach. Jacksonville and Miami have wonderful climate without as much humidity as other parts of Florida. The emerging lifestyle capital of the world is Orlando with its theme parks, culture, economic prosperity and more!
Individually, different people will have their own preferences for a place to live in Florida. A person who wants to be right on the beach would want one thing and one person who wants a safe and idyllic suburban neighborhood would want something else.
“The best place to live in Florida for families,” is in a highly personal decision based on what qualities any particular family values most.
However, as there are some communities that provide more amenities than others (both monetary costs of living and quality of public schools), it may be worthwhile to compare townships within Florida with regards to these demographics as it may help narrow down the perfect city or town-ship to suit your needs.

Sometimes a family might want more space, others lack the space and want a city. Some people may like the beach but prefer not to have humidity or risk hurricanes. There are many factors that can make us happier in one area over another; it also depends on age! If you’re planning on having children, there will be some decisions that are also need to be made based off of things like school systems and nearby hospitals.
