The sign for peace is made by holding your hand facing upwards, palm forward and then wiggling the fingers sideways. The sign for ‘Put it away’ (don’t move) is a fist with an extended index finger. The sign to hang in there or “Hang Tough” is generally interpreted as swinging a short curve out from under running man on which one places the thumb edge. To Swim top-stroke—is a kick linked by two cups each holding one finger of the other hand’s pinkie first joint straight across on either shoulder; palms down, knuckles up parallel to water surface at waist level.

NARUTO- Ninja hand signs are one of the most notable features of the Japanese cultural franchise Naruto, figuratively meaning “The Way of the Ninja.”

The foundation for these hand signs was derived from historically accurate symbols used in ninjutsu, which is still a living art form. Ninjas would often communicate without disrupting sound at close distances with”Ninja Hand Signs”, as illustrated below. The characters use this to give commands or just to send messages across to their companions without verbally making contact and giving themselves away.

There are dozens of hand signs in Naruto, from the very basic (a simple thrusting motion with the palm) to extremely complicated ones.
Most of them were developed by Masashi Kishimoto for use in the manga series and differ in complexity depending on their conditions. Additionally, groups can have their own set of hand signals where different motions create different meanings. For example, among members of Akatsuki, a “cake” sign may be used to ask when they might next meet or a “snow” sign might denote meeting up at night. The signs are often repeated as semaphore possibilities exist based on what symbol is being conveyed through both hands (i.e., snow can also mean hail).

Hand signs in Naruto are performed by forming one or more of four hand seals, each representing a specific element. The four basic seals have six different formations the hands can take to perform the seal, though most are seen in variations on “teardrop” and “pistol”. In Part II of Kishimoto’s manga series, for example, he introduced two new hand seals—Crow and Rabbit.

It’s not unusual for manga series to have a variety of hand signs, but “Naruto” has at least 42.

Many of the hand signs in Naruto are used by ninjas within the fictional world. The most basic use of these hand seals is for one person to get into another person’s mind and control their body, they may also be used for binding an opponent and capturing them, or locking them inside genjutsu. A skilled ninja can even implant fake memories into someone else’s mind so that they actually believe it really happened and were not controlled at all – this would destroy any chance if freedom from oppression when the plan was later revealed to them.

There are a handful of these, and most of them aren’t canon which is to say they weren’t developed in the manga. The ones that are canon include: “Wood Dragon”, “Eagle” (symbolizing Heavenly Punishment), and two secret hand gestures known solely by those with the Mangekyo Sharingan.

A fan’s website for Naruto, My Anime List, has this quote from Jiraiya:

“One particular use of Shadow Clones is in conjunction with Secret Hand Gestures.” So whether or not there are more canonical hand signs used by ninja characters hasn’t been confirmed yet since it appears that only one character has ever made use of a secret hand gesture at any point in the series.

What we do know about these hand signs is that they are gestures of respect and reverence for certain people, places, and ideas. To perform a secret hand gesture is to give your greatest possible compliment, offer faith in one’s abilities (or potential), or show undying gratitude for someone’s teachings. If the person performing the hand sign is not near an appropriate place or person to perform it in front of then he or she may simply make the gesture into empty air.

The basic rule to using them is that you cannot give a secret hand sign toward yourself and nobody else can use them toward you. Doing either of these would be considered extremely disgraceful and dishonorable.

To form the hand sign for Zero, you put your index and middle fingers together and extend your other two fingers. The hiragana character “零” looks like this. To represent Sakura in Naruto, you can use a female symbol with the number “4” above it to make the hand-sign (in both cases you will be making the Zero-hand-sign). When Kanji’s mother died he carried old on her plans for avenging his father’s death by killing all those involved as revenge. Azuma is one of these people, so just before he dies Kanji finishes what his mother started and kills him (“零”).

The hand signs in Naruto are a component of the techniques created by Masashi Kishimoto to set his manga apart from others who have employed elemental ninjutsu. There are few set gestures used in mainstream schools, though for some obscure and ancient schools there is an underlying symbolism or philosophy that’s been handed down within a clan. This differs from the rare techniques where it was found that an unusual movement would provide enough grounds for classification as a new technique, like Kakashi Hatake’s “Nawanuke Jutsu”.

There are many hand signs in Naruto used by every ninja, these include basic jutsu such as “Rasengan” or more advanced spells like “Katon Hijin Gakure no Jutsu”.

As a long-time Naruto fan, I can tell you that some of the most iconic hand signs in the series include the Tiger, Ram, and Snake signs. Learning these hand signs can help you channel chakra and perform jutsu just like your favorite shinobi characters!
